Ariella Aïsha Azoulay, working with archives

A guided tour of Ariella Aïsha Azoulay. Errata exhibition and a subsequent reflection session on the artwork made with materials and archive images by the artist Ariella Aïsha Azoulay. Simultaneous translation into English.

Consisting of eight projects by the artist, Errata is an attempt to intervene and reverse imperial and colonial knowledge. Ariella  questions the sacredness  and the untouchable status of objects of knowledge  – such as books, photographs, documents and artistic objects  – when constructing and legitimizing “History”. And, further, through textual and visual interventions in her works, including erasure, replacement, juxtaposition, addition and subtraction, Ariella also questions and points out imperial structures and numerous gestures and practices. inherited from academics, curators, photographers and artists.

Afterwards we will meet in the auditorium of the Fundació Antoni Tàpies with Ariella, the historian Isabel Segura, the professor and researcher Aida Sánchez de Serdio, the artist Marta Vergonyós, the artist Daniela Ortíz and other guests  who work with the archive, from feminisms and the various anti-colonial resistance. All of them will add their voices in the reflection session to think about how we understand the archive as a colonial institution, how to work with archival documentation and the possibilities of intervening and reversing imperial knowledge.
