Massimo Bartolini

Studied at the Istituto Tecnico Statale Bernardo Buontalenti (Livorno) and the Accademia di Belle Arti (Florence). After working in many different jobs - waiter, salesman, carpenter, architect, and theatre technician - he held his first exhibition in 1993 at the house of one of his best friends. Bartolini transforms the places where he works through special use of light or sound, generating paradoxical spaces of enormous physical intensity. He has participated in collective exhibitions in Ecstasy at the Museum of Contemporary Art (Los Angeles, 2005), the 26th São Paulo Biennial (2004), The Moderns at Castello di Rivoli (Turin, 2003), Manifesta 4 (Frankfurt, 2002) and Squatters at Fundação Serralves, Museu de Arte Contemporânea (Oporto, 2001). He has also had solo exhibitions at the GAM Galleria Civica d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea (Turin, 2005), the Museum Abteiberg (Mönchengladbach, 2003) and PS1 Contemporary Art Center (New York, 2001).
