Yael Bartana

Received a BFA from the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design (Jerusalem) and participated in the Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten (Amsterdam). Bartana works primarily with video, focusing on Israel and the Israeli situation. The point of departure for her videowork is everyday life and its rituals as related to the actions of the State and the constant presence of war. She has had solo exhibitions at the Kunstvereing (Hamburg, 2006), Van Abbemuseum (Eindhoven, 2006), Annet Gelink Gallery (Amsterdam, 2005), Modern Art Oxford (2004) and PS1 Contemporary Art Center (New York, 2003). Her work has also been exhibited in the 27th São Paulo Biennial (2006), the 9th International Istanbul Biennial (2005), De Appel (Amsterdam, 2005), Tate Modern (London, 2004), the 3rd Liverpool Biennial (2004), MIT List Visual Arts Center (Cambridge, 2004) and Manifesta 4 (Frankfurt, 2002). Yael Bartana lives and works in The Netherlands and Israel.
