How can I use the Library?
Access to the Library by appointment only. Appointments can be arranged in this form or calling +34 934 870 315 at least 48 hours in advance, and must be confirmed. If you are unable to come, please let us know as soon as possible to reschedule your appointment.
Library items must be requested in advance. Rare books are not available.
You can search the online Library catalogue.

Safe working conditions
• Wear a mask at all times in the library.
• Please ensure you wash your hands frequently or use our hand sanitisers where available.
• Materials on open shelves are not accessible to browse. Do not put back books on the shelves, leave them on the table.
• If you are unwell, please don’t come to the library. Please note that due to anti-Covid recommendations the capacity is very limited.
How do I get to the Library?
The Library is located in the Fundació Antoni Tàpies building, Aragó 255 08007 Barcelona. For directions by metro, bus, or car click here.
Which materials are not allowed into the Library?
All bags (including handbags and computer cases), parcels, books, magazines, folders, etc. must be left in the museum Reception. Cameras, scanners, cell phone cameras and other electronic reproduction equipment are not allowed into the library. The use of personal stereos, tape recorders, mobile phones and portable typewriters is not permitted, but laptop computers may be used.
No glue, ink supplies, correction fluid, scissors, or any substance or equipment which could damage a book are allowed in the Library. Tracing is strictly forbidden; readers are not permitted to make any marks on works belonging to the Library.
No food or drink (including mineral water) is allowed in the Library.
May I use my laptop in the Library?
Yes, laptops may be used in the Library.
May I connect to the Internet with my laptop?
Yes, via the Library Wifi network. You can request the password to the Librarians.
May I borrow from the Library?
No, all books and other materials are for use within the Library only.
May I put materials on reserve?
Yes, books can be reserved for one week. Materials from the Reserve collection and the last issues of magazines may not be put on hold.
May I photocopy Library materials?
Photocopying is permitted, within the laws of copyright. There is a self-service black and white photocopier (0.10€ each copy). Scanned images -for private research purposes only- may also be ordered (1€ each).
For conservation reasons fragile materials or from the Reserve section may not be photocopied.
May I photograph Library materials?
No, but you can make photocopies or order digital images.
How can I found a book?
Librarians will help you to search the Library catalogue and to locate books on the shelves. Materials are classified according to the Decimal Universal Classification (DCU). The DCU is also used as a call number. Small exhibition catalogues, opening invitations and ephemera are organized in artists’s files. Some materials are kept in the Reserve section.
Though most materials are on open access the number of items that can be taken from the shelves is not unlimited. Please ask the librarians. Books taken from the shelves should be left on the tables. Before leaving the Library, readers must return any items from the Reserve section.
May I use the Library’s audiovisual materials?
Videos can be viewed at the Library’s video player. CD and DVD players are also available.
